About Kratky Strawberries

An independent website about one thing: growing strawberries with the Kratky method of hydroponics.

Who We Are

Kratky Strawberries is a small, independent website. It is not a nursery, a store or a hydroponics brand. We grow strawberries with the Kratky method ourselves, and this site is where we write down what we learn so other growers can skip some of the trial and error.

The Kratky method is passive hydroponics. A strawberry plant sits in a net cup above a container of nutrient solution. As the roots take up the solution, the level drops and leaves an air gap that supplies the roots with oxygen. There is no pump, no timer, no electricity and no soil.

The site stays on that one subject. You will not find general gardening advice here, only strawberries grown the Kratky way.

What We Do

Which day-neutral, everbearing and June-bearing varieties suit a container of nutrient solution, and which do not.

Cover Containers and Supplies

Container size, net cups, growing media and lids, with the products we recommend clearly marked as affiliate links.

Explain Nutrients and pH

How to mix a nutrient solution for strawberries, the pH range to hold and when to top up.

Cover Light and Pollination

How much sun or grow light strawberries need, and how to pollinate flowers by hand indoors.

Help Solve Problems

What yellow leaves, brown roots, algae and mold mean in a Kratky container, and what to do about each.
